What is a plant-based diet?

You may have heard of a plant-based diet, but what exactly does that mean?  Put simply, following a plant-based diet means eating foods that are grown on plants.

A plant-based diet is a well-balanced, mainly plant-based diet that excludes meat and seafood but may include dairy and eggs. It’s one of the best ways to get started on your quest to better health! A plant-based diet is becoming a very popular way of eating, particularly among vegetarians, or those who are looking to reduce their meat consumption.

A plant-based diet is nothing new, in fact it dates to the Stone Age. But if you’re considering a plant-based diet for the first time or looking to make small but effective changes, then read on.

What do you eat on a plant-based diet?

A plant-based diet is based on fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. It excludes all animal foods such as meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, and eggs. While it can be more intensive to follow a plant-based diet than a regular one, there are several benefits you may get from sticking to a plant-based diet.

Here are some quick tips to adopting a plant-based diet or starting a new vegan lifestyle:

1. Go easy on yourself

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the idea of a completely new way of eating. But don’t worry, you don’t need to be perfect, and you don’t need to do it all at once. Even the smallest changes can make a big difference.

2. Get familiar with vegan-friendly foods

It can help to get familiar with foods that are naturally vegan. That way, when you go grocery shopping or eat out, you already have some ideas in mind.

3. Aim for variety

There are lots of healthy plant-based options besides lettuce and broccoli! Explore different fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds — you may discover some new favorites too!

4. Don’t forget about protein

Tofu, lentils, and beans are all great sources of protein that are naturally low in fat and contain no cholesterol. You can also find plenty of plant-based meats made from soy that mimic the taste and texture of animal proteins like beef and chicken. These products are available at most grocery stores — just check the refrigerated section near produce or tofu.

What are the benefits of a plant-based diet?

The benefits of a plant-based diet include weight loss, more energy, improved heart health and reducing your risk of cancer. If you have always wanted to switch to a plant-based diet, but you are unsure how to start making this change in your life, you have come to the right place. In this article, we will provide you some easy tips on how to adopt this new vegan lifestyle -whether you want to make small changes or go all in- you’re going to love it!
